How the salary converter works

The converter turns a pay rate into the other common periods using three assumptions: 52 weeks a year, 5 working days a week, and a number of hours per week that starts at 40 and that you can change. At 40 hours that makes 40 × 52 = 2,080 working hours a year and a working day of 8 hours.

Hourly pay is annual pay divided by the yearly hours, and every other period follows from the same two numbers. The figures are gross, meaning before tax and other deductions.

Worked examples

$25 an hour at 40 hours a week

  • Weekly: 25 × 40 = $1,000
  • Annual: 1,000 × 52 = $52,000
  • Monthly: 52,000 ÷ 12 ≈ $4,333.33
  • Daily: 25 × 8 = $200

A $60,000 salary as an hourly rate

  • 60,000 ÷ 2,080 ≈ $28.85 an hour

The same $25 rate at 37.5 hours a week

  • 25 × 37.5 × 52 = $48,750 a year

Tips and common mistakes

  • Change the hours per week if your contract differs. A shorter week lowers every annual figure.
  • Paid leave and public holidays are already inside the 52 weeks. If you are paid only for hours worked and take unpaid leave, your real annual income will be lower.
  • Overtime, bonuses and tax are not included. Use the result to compare offers, not to predict your bank balance.
